Brian Honan – CEO & Principal Consultant

Brian is a highly experienced information security professional and
one of Ireland’s foremost experts in cybersecurity. He founded BH
Consulting in 2004. Over Brian’s career, he has managed and
delivered information security projects and services to many organisations of varying sizes, from SMEs through to multinationals
and acts as the Virtual CISO for several of Ireland’s leading companies.

Brian is a former special advisor on cybersecurity to Europol’s Cyber
Crime Centre (EC3) and acts as an expert advisor to the European Union Agency for Network and Information Security (ENISA).

Brian is the founder and leader of IRISSCERT which is Ireland’s first Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT). He has since established IRISSCON, the annual Irish Cybercrime conference in Ireland and is highly sought after as an expert commentator in media stories involving Cybercrime and Information Security.

Brian regularly presents at various industry conferences around the globe, including RSA Conference (Europe and US), B-Sides London, Source Conferences, Cloud Security Summit, Infosec Europe and IDC IT Security Seminar. Brian has authored a number of books and is a regular contributor to various industry publications.

Additionally, Brian has worked extensively with Government departments both in Ireland and the UK and has provided advice to various Government security agencies, the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) and the European Commission.

In October 2024 Brian was appointed Chair of Cyber Ireland. Cyber Ireland is the national cyber security cluster organisation that brings together Industry, Academia and Government to represent the needs of the Cyber Security Ecosystem in Ireland.

Dr. Valerie Lyons

Included in the Top 100 Women in Cyber in Europe, Valerie is executive director and COO at BH Consulting, where she leads data protection, cybersecurity, and AI governance consulting initiatives. Prior to joining BH Consulting, Valerie spent 13 years as Chief Information Security Officer for KBC Bank.  she is an accomplished senior executive with over 30 years’ experience in regulatory compliance, risk management, data protection, cybersecurity and more recently AI Governance – across diverse sectors, including financial services and public sector. She is a recognised expert in building data protection governance into corporate strategies, and in 2024 published The Privacy Leader Compass: A Comprehensive Business- Oriented Roadmap for Building and Leading Practical Privacy Programs. This book has been adapted into a sold-out workshop at several IAPP conferences.

She is a Certified Data Protection Systems Engineer (CDPSE), a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E) and a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). Her experience spans regulatory compliance, board advisory, data protection, auditing, project management, cyber and data protection risk management, and digital strategy and leadership.

Valerie holds an award-winning PhD researching the influence of Privacy as a CSR on society and is currently undertaking a Post Grad in Corporate Governance with Cambridge University. She also holds a Master’s in Business Leadership from UCC, a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Information Systems from Trinity College and a number of post graduate diplomas in Cloud Computing Strategy and in Executive Coaching and Leadership.
