Creating your own web pages is becoming an increasingly popular pastime. And, depending how seriously you take it, can also be something that is very profitable as well. There are thousands of web pages that go up per day but it is a sad fact of life that most of them will be abandoned in a very short time.

Some people mistakenly believe that all you have to do is put a page on the web, wait for Google to index it, and then you will start to have thousands of visitors. That is almost never the case and if you want your web page to be popular you will have to advertise and let people know about it in some way.

It takes a lot of time and effort to get your website in front of people. But for the people who are able to stick to it and gain the visitors over time they will find that it is a truly enjoyable experience.

It may be rewarding when you start to get a lot of visitors to your site but you have to realise that your work has only begun when that happens. Now that you are getting actual people to the web page you need to figure out how you keep them there. And one of the ways that you will be able to keep them there is to make sure that they have a safe experience.

That means you are going to have to add another aspect to your job as the website’s owner: you have to start to be in charge of security as well. Whether that means you need to get help or do it yourself is all down to the personal skill set that you have. But you do have to get it done because once you are receiving visitors to your site then that means the bad guys are going to start taking an interest in your site as well.

While making sure that your web page is safe and secure can be a technical undertaking, not all of it has to be. There are some things that you can do to make sure your web page is safe no matter what skill level you are at. One of the things that you can do is to make sure your comment section is safe from the spam that might overrun it.

Yes, when you have a popular website you can be sure that there are some people out there who are going to try and spam it. And most of the time that means that they are going to try and target the comment section of the site. This is because it is an easy target and the people who are most active on the site tend to congregate there. So the bad guys will place links on the site hoping that it will take some of your visitors away.

Not all spam links are equal though: some of them are just merely advertising to junk products that no-one wants. Some of the links, however, can be a lot more dangerous than that and they can lead your visitors to dangerous parts of the internet that will infect them. This is the main reason why you want to be sure that you clean out the spam links in the comment section. Even if the link is in the comment section and most likely not done by you or anyone on your staff, the person who gets infected by the link will blame the website for not being safe.

So if you want to avoid this from happening to your site then make sure you curate the links in the comment section. Not all of the links will be spam but a lot of them will be.
