Regulatory landscape around incidents & data breaches
All organisations, no matter the size or business sector need to prepare for the likelihood of some type of incident occurring at some point. Regulatory requirements such as the EU Cybersecurity Act, the Network and Information Systems Directive (NIS2) and the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) all include requirements around preparing to detect, respond to, and recover from security incidents. GDPR also comes in to focus when the incident includes compromise or loss of personal data.
What is incident response
Incident response is the structured process an organisation follows from detection to recovery from security incidents, such as cyberattacks or data breaches. The goal is to minimise damage, restore normal operations, and prevent future incidents. This involves identifying, containing, and eradicating the threat in the event of a breach and also managing the communication with customers, staff and the supervisory authorities as appropriate.
