The Department of Communications recently launched its latest MakeITSecure campaign. The purpose of the campaign is to raise better awareness amongst people and businesses about the security issues they face and how to address them.

I attended the launch and thought it was interesting how the Department highlighted the risks many people now face using their Smartphones.  The usage of Smartphones and mobile broadband in Ireland is increasing rapidly which in turn makes them a more attractive target for criminals.

This video from TrendMicro nicely illustrates the risks posed against SmartPhones.

It is worth your while heading over to the MakeITSecure site and having a look.

I was happy to see reference at the launch of the campaign to the IRISSCERT Brush Up Your Security campaign.  This campaign ran in early May and was aimed at teenagers and young adults to help them improve their use of secure passwords.  IRISSCERT distributed 20,000 toothbrushes and leaflets on using secure passwords.  There was also a FaceBook Campaign which has a lot of useful resources.
